It's All Mental

Oct 22, 2019

Dr. Wendy Carver joins us today to talk about the loneliness we can feel “at the top” and how we can cope. As a black female executive, she found herself many times not only being the only woman but often the only woman of color, sitting at executive meetings. From feeling like you have to say everything perfect to feeling that you are not taken seriously, Dr. Carver takes us through a broad span of emotions and feelings that she experienced both in her personal life and professional career.

Dr. Carver tells us about her career in the professional workplace, as well as her work in the military and what it was like for a woman from a small town at eighteen to leave home and travel the world.  We talk about the anxiety she felt how she used positive self-talk to cope.

In addition to her professional career, Dr. Carver talks about how to compartmentalize and make sure you are still present as a wife and mother This balancing act can be difficult and often imposter syndrome can kick in where we feel that we are not giving enough to each task. However, Dr. Carver gives us some practice tips on how we can balance the demands we feel and still maintain our mental health.
